Ask HN: What API's do people wanna buy/pay for?

I see many website like Rapid API and many more where people can build API's and sell access to their API. Besides by doing market research, how can one find out what are API's that people are actually looking for and willing to pay for?

New top story on Hacker News: Ask HN: EU Bank with Good API?

Ask HN: EU Bank with Good API?

I am working on a service that connects buyers and sellers and will be doing plenty of pay-outs. The company is based in EU and EUR has been chosen as settling currency. I am therefore looking for an EU-base bank with good API to automate the necessary processes. So far, local banks are very bad in this regard. I looked at Wise and Revolut but they won't give me access to the sandbox environment to test and evaluate their APIs without signing up for paid business plan straight away, which is simply a no-go. Can you therefore recommend a bank with good API? By good I mean that it at least has a concept of idempotency and nonce and webhooks. I really don't need that much but the state of things is rotten.

If possible, provide links to demos, products pages, etc. Limit posts to one tech per post to make it easier for votes to reflect HN’s voting patterns and make it easier to filter related comments. ___ Here are some examples from CES: https://youtube.com/watch?v=SYYXida84Nc

https://twitter.com/planmoretrips/status/1603738966271860736 I ran into this myself (literally could not check out with my credit card without agreeing to those terms) and opted to paypal instead. Anybody at airbnb/plaid know if this is any less awful than it seems?

How do ADHD people cope on here?

I love HN. I check it out basically for hours every day, for the past 5 years or so. But, HN is utter hell too… it’s worse than my addiction to The Guardian. I see so many topics I’m interested in, so many cool projects, so I bookmark them. Then I see more and bookmark them too. There’s a never ending number of things I bookmark. But the constant reality is that I will never ever be able to do all the things in my brain. It’s a severely frustrating and depressing fact I feel faced with every day. A world of highs and disappointment. But I’m totally addicted because there’s just so much new. Anyone else with ADHD feel this way or have a healthier outlook about HN?

Happened to me twice. Does anybody know why companies that offer fully-remote employment contract, don't allow the employee to work outside the country even for relatively small amounts of time?

Sorry, What's Going on Here?

I don't mean to disrupt the flow you guys seem to have hera, and I'm not certain if I'm doing this correctly. Please let me know if there's a better place to do this. What is this site? I came across a discussion about a programming question I had from 2013, which isn't uncommon, but to my surprise this place appears to still be thriving a decade later. It calls itself a news site but appears not to be an actual journalist organization, but rather some kind of... archival feed? Is it a social media platform? I've see it compared to Reddit in a couple of the community guidelines and FAQs. What is the purpose and the history of this site, how has it managed to stay up and running for nearly 15 years without me ever hearing about it? For those of you who are still here, why? I must say I'm a bit exited. I find myself mourning the deaths of so many independent forums and smaller social media platforms which thrived tn the 2000s-early 2010's but have now mostly gone offline or faded into complete disuse. I'm not sure exactly what you guys have going on here, but it's seems... Good.

Show HN: Terra Firma, a playable erosion simulation

It's free to play on steam, but you'll need a computer with a dedicated graphics card. I just released a new version after first releasing it 18 months ago. It's been a hard slog to scrounge time as it's not my day job but that's life. There's a ton of obvious improvements in the future (weather systems, temperature, varying rainfall, ice/snow, more biomes, more plate tectonics, lava, etc) but all suggestions/feedback is welcome.

Ask HN: Other Devs, How Do You Deal with Socials, Blogging, etc.

Throwaway.. because I don't want to tie my actual account to this one. People - how do you deal with the ongoing requirements it appears that jobs place, such as social network involvement. To me - this means LinkedIn posting rubbish, Twitter bollocks, public GitHub repos for sharing - even the asks from employers to post here. I, as a person have zero accounts anywhere, except for one here. I've been gainfully employed in industry for ~2 decades, and frankly I have neither need nor desire to have a "social profile". I speak at conferences when I want to, sans twitter, linkedin, etc. Moreso - I find the amount of developer advocate written blogspam (let's just call it marketing crap) only contributes to the web problems - and hence have started to block... everything, including my employer's search results (personally, with a plugin in DuckDuckGo and Google. I'm not interested in writing blog things. I'm interested in continuing my ongoing work as a principal engineer, without marketing externally on the fakery of "how great we/I am/are", or "humbelbragging", or frankly any of the rubbish I keep encountering. I just want to focus on the things we're collectively doing to be successful. So... how do you handle this?

Ask HN: Alternatives to Scratch for a blind child?
5 by nathell | 0 comments on Hacker News.
Hey HN, My friend’s children are starting their adventure with programming at school with Scratch. Unfortunately, the eldest one is blind, and as Scratch is visual, he won’t be able to use it. A pity: the kid has probably the most vivid imagination of all people I know. Can you recommend an alternative? Something tactile or audial, perhaps? A quick googling yielded https://codejumper.com/ – is it worth the $1K it costs? Personal experience reports are most welcome. Thanks!

Ask HN: What are the best open source TypeScript projects I can learn from?

What are the best open source TypeScript frontend and backend real world projects I can learn from? I am a self-taught web developers and I haven't worked for any good companies. There are no seniors reviewing my code. My code quality can be improved but I don't know how. Maybe reading some good codebase is a way out. I use React in frontend and express in Backend. Do you know any good OSS projects that use those stacks? Maybe I should read popular OSS frameworks instead of web app's source code? I am thinking of changing my job, so reading real web app's source code might be more relavant. I am very thankful for any advices. And Happy New Year!
