Show HN: Top Links from Hacker News, Reddit, Techmeme, PH on a Single Page

Hi HN, this is something I created for my personal use and I have been using it daily for a long time now. It’s a page that shows top 25 links from the sources mentioned in the title. Updates every 10 minutes through a cron job and new links are always added to the top. Some more details: It’s using simple heuristics like minimum upvotes/comments to select the links. For techmeme, only the first headline on techmeme.com is considered a top link. For reddit, currently fetching content from only a select few subreddits. It’s just a simple page. No ad. No tracking. It’s the first tab I open in the morning. Suggestions and feedback are welcome. :)

Assuming the developer is competent in their language of choice and want to implement lisp in that language. What's at the heart of lisp that makes it so simple and elegant?

New top story on Hacker News: Ask HN: Tips for Reducing the Number of Inboxes

Ask HN: Tips for Reducing the Number of Inboxes

Does anyone have any tips for handling the fact that there is an ever growing number of apps to check messages on. I have to check linked in, email, texts, messenger, whatsapp, signal, telegram, slack etc Everyone seems to have their preference I have loads of friends who only use messenger, some who only use signal. As a dyslexic I find it super hard to keep up and end up missing and forgetting loads of things as a result. Does everyone just deal with it? Or is there a way to centralise my communication without hiring a pa?

New top story on Hacker News: Ask HN: How do I get my Google account back?

Ask HN: How do I get my Google account back?
10 by j4tech | 2 comments on Hacker News.
A couple of days back, after I logged in to my gmail account, a security message flashed that someone had logged into my account and I was prompted to change the password or confirm that it was me who logged in. This was during a time when I had to replace my fried router twice within the span of 2 days (one that I rented immediately from my internet service provider on the same day my router died and then with brand new router that I bought a day later). I presumed that the security message was because of new IP addresses that must have been assigned. While I was initially able to log in to my accounts after replacing both the routers, on subsequent logins, I started getting a message that google was not able to ascertain that the email accounts really belonged to me. I managed to use my recovery email on 2 of my accounts and was able to gain access. However, after I entered a recovery email on the email account that displayed the security alert, google refused to accept that the account belongs to me. I have had this account, where I have my whole digital life, ever since goggle offered one. Unfortunately I did not have a phone number associated with this account. My understanding is I would have been able to recover my account, If I had one. Is there a way I can recover my account? I have started changing the email id’s at various business and agencies where I have used this Id. Is there anything else I need to do?

New top story on Hacker News: Ask HN: We Already Pivoted

Ask HN: We Already Pivoted

Hi everyone. My cofounder and I had been working on a startup for a little while and thought, you know, let's apply to YC. Since then we've killed that idea (for various reasons) but on Friday we got an invite to a YC interview. What should we do? The current plan is just to say at the start of the interview "Hey we pivoted to this new business, lets talk about that instead". It's quite a large pivot - basically we realised what we were working on was going to be too small and ultimately our traction dried up, so we looked at problems we'd had along the way and found something we were more passionate about and probably better suited to build. We have good (imo) traction on this new business, considering we've only been working on it for like 3 weeks. Would love some advice here! Surely we can't be the first this has happened to!

Ask HN: Why are there so many companies trying to reinvent the terminal (badly)?

Every week I see a new terminal app here on HN, and it's always some startup with no good will that's built it on Electron and filled it full of always-online trackers. Why is this a thing, and why do companies think this is a market worth pursuing?
